Contest has ended and it is time to sum up
If I were to join myself here are a few suggestions I might have made (based on oddities between the various frames):
- Ayla (character) has the thinnest frame.
- La Lina (in Yakra frame)
- Hoagie in Johnny frame.
- Robo Icon because his name is actually R-66Y, not R66-Y!
Now, there were a total of three -3- participants, thank you very much
Here is what they said:
Thanexitium (deviously making four random suggestions):
- Would it be Johnny? He being the only one who has not fought out of all of them?
- Or Maybe the second one of Marle, since it has a whole video game in it?
- Or could it be Masamune, as he is actually two beings, and you have put two people in the background, therefore putting some subtlety to it?
- Is it Samus, her being the only one not from the same video game?
inthename (the indecisive):
- My answer would be the picture below R66-Y. This picture is the only one out of all of them that doesn't have a name, or distinctive character.
- Damn... now I think it's yakra due to it being the only piece that is different in shape then the rest of the squares and rectangles. I hate not knowing if I'm right.
Torquinox (the eliminator):
- I have spent a little while studying your contest sheet. I have to admit, I don't know who all these characters are, so if it's one of those "He's not from this game, he's from that game" things, I'm probably sunk. The picture of Yakra holding up the "peace" or "victory" fingers sticks out because it is the only image that is not enclosed in a single rectangle with rounded corners. But that is not my pick.
- I also considered the nameless character rendered in lines, up one row from the bottom on the far left because he is not named (there is no text at all or even part of some letters in his rectangle) and is the only one to appear drawn in colored lines on a field black. But he is not my choice.
- I am actually going to say the picture of Magus with his back turned does not belong. It's second from the left, second from the bottom. My reasons: He is the only one with his back turned to us, he is the only one enclosed in a perfect circle, and I think Magus may also be the only character who appears twice. There is a portrait of him facing us two frames to the right.
The best strategy (for anyone reading the fine print) would be to make a wild nonsensical statement while hoping that no-one would find the right answer
(ref. rule:
If no-one finds the correct answer, the prize will go to the most creative answer, so feel free to go nuts )
There were quite a few hints around even though not explicitly stated. It should have been easy enough to deduce that the coloured highlights are related to the
Psychedelic Man drawing, based on the content plus the
Psycedelic Man Highlights reference.
Indeed, all of the depicted images are characters from the video game Chrono Trigger (the 7 main characters as full body plus icon) plus three enemies (Yakra, Ozzie, and Spekkio) and Johnny "The Man" NPC), with the exception of Samus Aran from the video game series Metroid. The "obvious" choice would in this case be "Samus Aran", thus the hint "
The answer may not be as obvious as you think!".
(Samus was added specifically as a pitfall for people who would know about the games Chrono Trigger and Metroid, and the hint was added to get the same people (who read the comment) to rethink their answer. Additionally, Samus was added as a hint to gamers to say that the odd one out has nothing to do with the fact that all images are game related.)
The "puzzle" was set up so that (a) anyone could solve it and (b) when you found the answer you would know that you had found the right one (parallels drawn to the puzzles at
notpron).
The correct answer can be found here:
bakkeby.deviantart.com/art/Con…The "surprise"
prize was in fact a one year dA premium membership, but... no one submitted the correct answer and no one made ridiculous suggestions.
I kind of thought that a contest where people didn't actually have to "create" art would be appealing to more people, but I'll just have to assume that puzzles are not exactly dA material

Contest, please read
So I've been working on colouring my
Psychedelic Man drawing and I have been pondering whether to create a Chrono Highlights similar to the
Psychedelic Man Highlights that I did a while back. Instead I have thought that it might be cool to run a small contest.
I have never run a contest before, usually contests involve people competing by creating art of some form, this is going to be different.
Now, I don't have many active followers so I highly doubt this will turn into anything, but in any case there will be a prize.
The contest ends Saturday 3rd of October.
The rules are very simple and can be found here:
ContestThanks,
-Stein
